Tesla Solar Panels: how ordering works and how to get $400 off

Tesla sells its solar panels as a home system with Powerwall 3, designed and quoted on its website. Since late October 2026 this is also the only order a Tesla referral link still helps with: Tesla's Refer and Earn page lists solar panels as the only qualifying product, and its referral page shows $400 off Solar Panels & Powerwall.

What Tesla says about its panels
- Engineered in California and assembled in Buffalo, New York.
- Tesla Panel Mount hardware: integrated mounting and skirts keep the panels close to the roof with no visible fasteners.
- Tesla says its panels have three times more power zones than traditional panels, to generate more energy under shade.
- Paired with Powerwall, extra solar energy is stored for outages or for hours when grid prices are high.

How the order works
- 1Open the referral link on this page before you start.
- 2Tap Order Now on Tesla's referral page. It opens Tesla's design page.
- 3Choose Solar Panels + Powerwall 3.
- 4Enter your home address and average electric bill to see Tesla's system recommendation and quote.
- 5Choose how to pay. Tesla offers financing and a Tesla Solar Lease; if you lease, check that the $400 shows in your order before you sign.
- 6Place the order. Energy products only count for the referral program when Tesla installs them.
Who gets the $400
- Your first qualifying Tesla purchase, made through the referral link.
- A Tesla-installed solar panel order.
- A link that has not hit its owner's limit of 10 referrals for the year. If Tesla's page says the limit has been reached, use this site's backup link.
- The link opened before you place the order, never after.
Who does not
- Owners of Tesla solar panels, Solar Roof or Powerwall, who get loyalty benefits instead, per Tesla.
- Car orders, since late October 2026.
- A Powerwall-only order is not on Tesla's qualifying list; check your order for the $400 before you place it.

Common questions
Does Tesla sell solar panels without Powerwall?
On Tesla's design page, checked on the date above, the solar option is Solar Panels + Powerwall 3; Powerwall 3 is also offered on its own.
Does Tesla Solar Roof get the referral discount?
Solar Roof is not on Tesla's buyer or referrer list as of the date above; the list names solar panels.
Can I lease Tesla solar and still get $400?
Tesla offers a Tesla Solar Lease, but its referral terms talk about purchasing. If you lease, check that the $400 shows in your order before you sign.
Do I need a referral code?
No. There is no code box. Open the referral link, tap Order Now on Tesla's page and order from there; Tesla will not add a referral after the order is placed. More in how to enter a Tesla referral code.
I already own a Tesla car. Do I get the $400?
Tesla's buyer benefit is for your first qualifying Tesla purchase, and its loyalty program covers current owners buying another qualifying product. Check Refer and Earn in the Tesla app before you order to see which benefit applies to you.
