How to find and send your Tesla referral code

Your referral link lives in the Tesla app, and Tesla's own sharing flow is five taps. Here is the exact path, what your link looks like, and the program rules that decide whether a share actually earns you anything.
Where your link lives
- Open the Tesla app, signed in to the account that holds your Tesla.
- Tap the menu in the top-right corner.
- Select 'Refer and Earn.'
- Tap 'Refer Now.'
- Pick the friend from your contacts and send the referral message. Your link rides along with it.

Sending it is easy. Sending it right matters more.
The referral only counts if your friend opens your link and places their order from it. There is no code box at Tesla checkout, so reciting the code over the phone does nothing; the link is the mechanism. If your friend wants the walkthrough from their side, point them at how the referral gets applied.
The rules that protect your reward
Your friend must be new to Tesla
Buyer benefits only exist for someone purchasing their first qualifying Tesla product, and a referral link cannot be used by the same Tesla Account more than once. Sending your link to an existing owner earns neither of you anything.
The link has to come before the order
Tesla only credits referrals when the order is placed through the link. It cannot be applied afterwards, so the one thing to tell your friend is: open the link first, then order from it.
You can earn on 10 orders per calendar year
Tesla caps referrer rewards at 10 order referrals per calendar year, plus up to 30 demo drive referrals over the life of the account. Tesla's own FAQ adds a sting: once you are over the cap, buyers who order through your link get no buyer benefit either, so a maxed-out link quietly helps nobody.
Ohio and Virginia sit out the referrer side
Residents of Ohio and Virginia can still receive buyer and loyalty benefits, but they are not eligible for referrer benefits under Tesla's current terms.
Keep a qualifying Tesla on the account
Your link stays valid only while a qualifying Tesla product lives on your account. Transfer or remove all of them and the link stops working until you take delivery of another one.
What Tesla does not allow
Tesla's terms draw one bright line: paid advertising, selling links, or paying and offering incentives for referral use are all off the table, and Tesla will not honor links tied to that behavior. Sharing your link free where someone already wants one is exactly what the program is for. Common questions
Where do I see the credits I have earned?
In the Tesla app: tap the top-right menu, tap your name, then 'Wallet.' Your balance sits on a card named 'Tesla Credits' along with its expiration date. You need app version 4.36.1 or later for the credits screens.
Why does my referral show as pending?
Referrer benefits appear as pending from the moment your friend orders until the Grant Date. Once granted, the credits are yours and the 12-month expiry clock starts.
How much is each referral worth?
Tesla shows the current per-referral value inside the Refer and Earn screen of the app and adjusts it over time; it does not publish the number on its support page. Credits can pay for Supercharging, service balances, Tesla Shop orders, subscriptions, upgrades, and even a future vehicle.
Why did my link stop working?
The usual causes: you hit the 10-per-year referral cap, or no qualifying Tesla product remains on your account. Tesla also will not honor links promoted through paid ads or sold for incentives.
Can I use my own referral link?
No. A referral link cannot be used by the same Tesla Account, and buyer benefits require a first-time owner anyway. Self-referral is the one trick the terms rule out twice.
