Lucid battery preconditioning before DC fast charging

By ReferCharge. Updated 2026-08-18.

Preconditioning brings the high-voltage battery toward a temperature where it can accept DC power more readily. It can help a cold or hot pack, but it cannot repair a weak charging stall or force peak power at a high state of charge.

Smart versus manual

SMART

Route with Lucid navigation

  • Enable Smart Preconditioning in Advanced Charging Settings.
  • When navigation routes to a fast charger, the car chooses when to begin based on arrival time.

MANUAL

Start from the Charging screen

  • Lucid suggests starting about 20 minutes before plugging in.
  • The mobile app charging screen can also expose the battery preconditioning control.

These controls and the 20-minute starting point come from Lucid's Air charging guide and its Air owner's manual.

Why an Electrify America session can still be slow

  1. 1Check state of charge. A high starting percentage naturally leaves less room for peak power.
  2. 2Check whether the battery had time to precondition before arrival.
  3. 3Read the car and charger messages for whether the vehicle or station is limiting power.
  4. 4Try another stall at the site, then another site if the result remains unexpectedly low.
  • Preconditioning addresses battery temperature.
  • State of charge still shapes the vehicle's requested power.
  • A station fault, shared power or derating can still cap the session.

In this owner troubleshooting thread, drivers compare the power requested by the car with the power delivered by the stall. Lucid likewise lists battery temperature, preconditioning and station output as separate charging-speed factors in its public charging guide.

No product fixes this

Use the controls already in the car and app. If the session stays slow after temperature, state of charge and stall checks, record the charger ID, time and displayed messages for the network or Lucid support.
