Home charging: J1772 for Air, NACS for Gravity
By ReferCharge. Updated 2026-08-18.
Air accepts J1772 Level 2 directly. Gravity accepts NACS directly. Buying the matching connector is the simplest setup and keeps the travel adapters out of the nightly routine.
Match the inlet first
AIR
J1772
- No adapter is needed for a J1772 Level 2 unit.
- Lucid sells an 80A, 240V J1772 station with a 24-foot cable.
GRAVITY
NACS
- A native NACS Level 2 unit plugs in directly.
- Lucid sells an 80A, 240V NACS station with a 24-foot cable.
Lucid lists both Connected Home Charging Station versions at about $1,200: the J1772 version and the NACS version. Third-party 40A and 48A units cost less, which makes them a legitimate home alternative when 80A output is unnecessary.
Amperage and breaker sizing
- 1Choose J1772 for Air or NACS for Gravity so no home adapter is needed.
- 2Have an electrician confirm service capacity, wire size, receptacle or hardwire method, and local code.
- 3Size ordinary EV charging overcurrent protection at no less than 125 percent of the equipment's maximum load.
- 4Set the charger output no higher than the completed circuit and installation allow.
The 125 percent rule comes from NEC 625.41 as shown in this NFPA code record. That commonly pairs 40A charging with a 50A circuit, 48A with a 60A circuit, and 80A with a 100A circuit, subject to the equipment instructions and local requirements.
Lower-cost Level 2 choices
We do not own a Lucid, so nothing below is a hands-on review. Each pick is checked for fitment against the maker's own listed compatibility, and we say plainly where owners report problems or where Lucid's own part is the safer choice.
