Which charging adapter does my Rivian need?
By ReferCharge. Updated 2026-08-13.
The answer flips at model year 2026. Rivian identifies 2022–2025 R1T and R1S vehicles as CCS1-port vehicles, while 2026-and-newer vehicles have NACS built in. Rivian charging source.

Rivian announced free NACS DC adapters for then-current owners beginning in April 2024. Read Rivian's announcement. On what is included, Rivian states it plainly: “R1 orders include a J1772 AC charging adapter, and R1 Quad orders also include a CCS1 DC charging adapter.” So the DC adapter is documented for Quad specifically, not for Tri. Check the box, your order details and your Rivian account before buying anything. Rivian's charging-equipment page.

Read this before buying a DC adapter. Rivian directs owners to adapters it supplies or permits, and warns that other adapters can risk damage. The options below are third-party parts, not Rivian-supplied ones, and using them is your decision and may affect warranty or support.
Rivian sells its own NACS DC adapter and Combo CCS1 DC adapter. We earn nothing if you buy from Rivian, and for a DC adapter that is the documented-safe choice.
We do not own a Rivian, so nothing below is a hands-on review. Each pick is checked for fitment against the maker's own listed compatibility, and we say plainly where owners report problems.

Why A2Z appears before Lectron
Rivian owner threads report early Lectron units that could release without the intended interlock, followed by replacement or revised units that some owners found difficult to remove. Read the issue thread and the owner comparison. That is why the Lectron card is presented as the budget choice, while A2Z Typhoon Pro is the community pick.

Common questions
Why does the answer change at 2026?
Rivian says 2026-and-newer vehicles have a built-in NACS port, while its NACS DC adapter listing identifies 2022–2025 R1T and R1S vehicles as CCS1-port vehicles. Source.
Can one adapter handle both AC and DC?
Do not assume so. Rivian's adapter pages distinguish the J1772 AC adapter from its NACS and CCS1 DC adapters and warn against using the AC part on a DC charger. Source.
Should I buy before delivery?
Check the vehicle, delivery paperwork and your Rivian account first. Rivian states that R1 orders include a J1772 AC charging adapter and that R1 Quad orders also include a CCS1 DC charging adapter, so you may already own the part you are about to buy. Source.
